Prior to founding Altman Environmental Consulting (AEC) in 2014, Heather Altman was a senior environmental specialist for over 13 years with Environmental Management Associates. Over the course of her career, Heather has provided environmental consulting and public outreach services for a variety of complex multi-disciplinary projects largely involving the renewable resource power generation industry, or public engagement and education efforts often in conjunction with wetlands restoration efforts.
Primarily for renewable power generation projects throughout the western United States, Heather has prepared permit requirement and compliance audits, designed and managed environmental baseline data collection programs, and helped acquire necessary project permits. She has also prepared, reviewed, and/or managed the preparation of numerous Federal and State environmental analysis documents.
Heather also has extensive experience working with both private industry and public agency clients creating and implementing public outreach plans. Building stakeholder trust through sustained, honest communication, Heather establishes public support and community buy in, which often translates to a successful project and broad-based community support.
Since moving to Long Beach in 2001, Heather has been actively involved in her local community. Heather founded the Egrets Not Regrets Scholarship Fund at the California State University Long Beach, and was on the advisory council for the school's Environmental Science and Policy Department. Heather has served on the board of directors for several local environmental and neighborhood organizations, most recently serving as the past President of Friends of Colorado Lagoon, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the restoration of an important urban wetland within Long Beach. She has created and hosted numerous local events such as the regular Wine and Wetlands series, the Green is Greater Festival, the Debates at Da Beach series, and numerous smaller events. As a small business owner, Heather is also involved in the policy arena, speaking at events or on panels to advocate for affordable and accessible health care.
Heather received a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of California, Riverside, and a Master of Science in Environmental Management from the University of San Francisco.
